Surveys for the review of the neighbourhood plan

Please do fill in the survey about the draft policies in the Neighbourhood Plan update.

The Council is not planning to allocate any further sites for development. The sites in the current neighbour hood plan are a various stages of planning applications.
The council is looking to introduce some different policies to improve life in the village.
All the information can be found here on our website https://www.sedlescombeparishcouncil.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan

This review is very important to the village – One of the benefits to the village when there is a neighbourhood plan in place is more CIL money.
CIL is a Community Infrastructure Levey that house builders have to pay to the planning authority. Without a Neighbourhood Plan the village would only get 15% of what is paid to Rother but the is payment is also capped at £100,000 in any one year.

Our current Neighbourhood Plan has an end date of 2028, but technically it will become out of date because of Rother District Council making a new Local Plan and them not having a 5-year housing land supply.

We are updating our plan to ensure it stays in date and therefore we benefit from the maximum amount of CIL money paid to Rother by the developers.
The update we are doing is not planning to allocate anymore sites for housing but will concentrate on policies that aim to improve village life.

So, we want to know residents thoughts on the draft policies we would like to add to the Neighbourhood Plan. If we can get this plan adopted by Rother District Council, it will last until 2040 and in order to ensure the plan is adopted we do need the views of our residents.

Are you interested in becoming a Parish Councillor?

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) have endorsed a new free online course from the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) to help anyone thinking of standing as a parish or town councillor.

The course clearly explains what candidates need to know about parish and town council elections, including the key paperwork, deadlines, people involved and how the process works. It covers four short modules on nomination paper, consent to nomination, home address form and final steps.

There’s also a quick knowledge check at the end to reinforce learning. The whole course takes around 20 minutes to complete.

NALC have worked closely with the AEA on its development, including testing the course with input from county officers in early 2026. The result is a practical, easy-to-follow resource designed to give candidates confidence and clarity.

With 343 parish and town council elections taking place on 7 May 2026 across 16 county areas (including Greater London), NALC encourage parish and councils and county associations to promote this free resource widely.

Two New Housing Developments in Sedlescombe

Two new sites are proposed in Sedlescombe for housing by Rother District Council. One for 38 houses directly across the road from East View Terrace in Brede Lane and one at the end of Gorselands for 15 houses. This is despite sites already approved for about 83 houses none of which have been built. Come along to the exhibition and see how to comment.

The Parish Council are also developing a revised Sedlescombe Neighbourhood Plan (SNP) which will complement and provide local flavour for the Rother District Plan. Let us know if you would like to be involved in this work as a resident or by applying to become a Parish Councillor.

If you would like to find out more speak to one of the councillors or the clerk who will be at the exhibition.
